  • Yoga

Yoga is the science of Self-healing and it has stood the test of time. Through observation and correct discernment the mysteries of the human body, mind and soul were mapped out by our ancient ancestors. They distilled their experiences and understandings into a universal system of simply teachings broadly known as Yoga.

The word yoga comes from the ancient language Sanskrit and it implies unity. A yogi is someone who lives in united energy. The trinity of Body, Mind and Soul is understood by their experience and they are able to express the essence of their soul, their divine light.

There are many traditions of yoga but the aim of each is the same, to experience and express the essence of being human- the divine light of the soul.

    Hatha Yoga

The word Hatha can be separated into Ha - meaning Sun, and Tha - meaning Moon. This symbolism is referring to the principles of Action and Stillness or Projection and Reflection. These principles are at the core of each yoga pose (asana) illustrated by the constant play of force and ease necessary to maintain each sacred alignment (asana).

Hatha Yoga employs the physical body through the use of various postures to detoxify the organs, realign the skeletal system and strengthen the muscular system.

Today the tradition of Hatha Yoga is being honoured by many masterful teachers among whom the most notable is the late B.K.S. Iyengar.

    Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is known as the yoga of awareness. By becoming more aware of our habits, the subtle ways in which we carry and express ourselves we can dramatically improve the quality of our life.

Kundalini means coiled serpent and is describing the primal energy of the body. This flowing pool of energy is known to exit at the base of the spine within the pelvis and as this energy rises up through the central energetic channel (sushumna) it exhilarates the other energetic centres (chakras) harmonizing the body, mind and soul.

Kundalini Yoga works by coordinating the entire body system through postures, breath work, body seals and locks, focus points and our voice to crystallize the connection we have with our soul.

The soul is the source of our energy and awareness. This divine light manifests itself in subtle layers and is organized into an energetic system known as the Chakras which is ultimately what Kundalini Yoga is designed to balance. The seven main Chakras of the body form the base energetic structure that coordinates all physical and mental functions of the human organism. By balancing our Chakras we unite the body and mind which leads to the experience of our soul; the experience of the oneness or interconnectedness of the universe. We experience Love.

On a physical level the dynamic movements in this tradition work together to strengthen the nervous system, balance the glandular system and improve the immune system.

When the body is healthy, our mood is more stable and positive and we have more energy to experience and enjoy our life.

This technology was brought to the West and taught publicly for the first time ever in 1968 by Yogi Bhajan.
